Telemetry, Tracking & Command

The TT&C subsystem consists of a radio for data encoding and modulation, one or more antennas to receive uplink communications from Earth, one or more antennas to transmit downlink communications to Earth, the radio-to-antenna interface, and the interface between the radio and controlling hardware. The goals of a robust TT&C subsystem are reasonable downlink speeds for payload data transfer, low power consumption, flexible transmit opportunities, reliability, and reasonable cost. Telemetry data organization and transmission is standardized by the Consultative Committee on Space Data Systems (CCSDS) in publications such as the Reference Architecture for Space Data Systems (RASDS).
